What does the qualification cover?
This qualification’s aim is to provide an introduction to the early development of the brain in babies and young children from birth to 7 years of age. It looks at how the social brain develops, the limbic system and self-regulation.
How is the qualification structured?
To be awarded the Level 2 Award in an Introduction to Neuroscience in Early Years, you are required to successfully complete the mandatory units:
- Understanding Neuroscience in Early Years
- Understanding Self-Regulation and How to Nurture This in Children from Birth to Seven Years
How is it assessed?
To achieve the Level 2 Award in an Introduction to Neuroscience in Early Years, you must successfully demonstrate your achievement of all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the units. This is achieved by completing assessments supported by learning resources.
There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification. You must be aged 19+ and resided in the EU for the last 3 years in order to access funding.
The course is free*, however, there is a charge of £125 which is payable if the student does not complete the course.

Fees and funding
If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
