What does the qualification cover?

The purpose of this qualification is to give learners the skills to support colleagues with mental health problems. These skills will be gained by increasing the learner’s knowledge and understanding of mental health conditions and the principles of mental health first aid and how this can be implemented in the workplace.

This qualification is suitable for learners who wish to raise awareness of mental health, creating a culture of care and the promotion of positive mental health. This qualification gives learners the opportunity to understand mental health, its associated care and how this can be applied to learners or colleagues in the workplace.

How is the qualification structured?

To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health First Aid and Mental Health Advocacy in the Workplace, you are required to successfully complete the mandatory units:

  • Exploring Mental Health
  • Understand How to Support Individuals with Mental Ill Health
  • Understand a Mentally Healthy Environment

How is it assessed?

To achieve the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health First Aid and Mental Health Advocacy in the Workplace, you must successfully demonstrate your achievement of all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the units. This is achieved by completing assessments supported by learning resources.

There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification. You must be aged 19+ and resided in the EU for the last 3 years in order to access funding.

The course is free*, however, there is a charge of £125 which is payable if the student does not complete the course.

If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
