Learners on different college programmes staged a spectacular world culture festival as part of the Coventry 2021 celebrations.

Travel and Tourism, Hair and Beauty and Hospitality students joined forces to host the Celebration of Culture Festival at the College’s Henley campus on Thursday 10 June.

Learners recreated the tastes, sights and sounds of destinations across six world continents at the event.

They also whetted the appetite for trips to far-flung corners of the world and dream destinations as Covid-19 restrictions begin to ease.

Countries and continents at the showcase event included Greece, Spain, Kenya, Egypt, Japan, India, Brazil, Mexico, Australia and USA.

Learners created a sea of colour by decking stands with flags, maps and images of major tourist attractions in the different destinations.

Hair and beauty learners also wore traditional costumes and created hair and make-up styles for different countries and cultures while hospitality students served up traditional foods and culinary treats for guests to sample.

Travel and Tourism tutor Janine Sansom was delighted with the festival during a very tough academic year.

Janine said: “The festival was a really fantastic occasion which was well supported by learners, staff and college governors.

“It brought everyone together at our Henley campus and gave learners across different programme areas the opportunity to showcase their skills and work together to host a live event.

“For our travel learners, it gave them the chance to promote different cultures and worldwide destinations which complemented their travel studies.”

Janine added: “It was a really colourful event and it was great to be able to stage it in college and reflect on culture as part of the wider Coventry 2021 celebrations which kicked off last month.”
