Course Overview
The Barbering Certificate course is a short, sharp 10 week course, giving you an introduction to basic Barbering skills. No experience or skills in hairdressing or barbering is required to join the course.
There are 3 course intakes – January 2026, March 2026 and September 2026. Course availability will be discussed with you at interview. All courses run on a Tuesday evening 5.30pm-8.30pm. These courses are adult only – open to anybody over the age of 19.
Topics covered include:
- Theory covering health and safety, client care, cutting men’s hair and facial hair
- Clipper work (this includes basic fading)
- Scissor work
- Styling
- By the end of the course your target will be to be working on a friend or relative not just a block
- We encourage all students to find some work experience in a salon/Barber shop to continue practicing skills learnt
There are no course specific qualifications required to join this course. However, there is an expectation candidates have dexterity skills and a good standard of English. A practical activity and a short written test will be given at interview to assess suitability.
Course fees are £350 plus Barbering kit £160.00 and course text book £15.00

Making your application

Fees and funding
If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
