For Alex, the decision to study at Coventry College was influenced by several factors, including proximity to his hometown and the welcoming atmosphere he encountered during one of our open events. Meeting supportive faculty and like-minded peers convinced him that Coventry College was the ideal place to pursue his passion for game design.

Alex enrolled in the BTEC course for Games Design and Development, where he had the opportunity to explore various aspects of game creation. The comprehensive curriculum allowed him to discover his strengths and interests, particularly in planning, preparation, and 3D art programs like 3DS Max. His love for 3D environment art became a driving force in his career trajectory, leading him to university and community projects.

Since leaving Coventry College, Alex’s career has taken diverse and exciting turns, reflecting his adaptability and ambition. He began as a QA tester, gaining valuable industry experience before advancing to roles in Microsoft Compliance and Engine Tech Assistance. His journey eventually led him to his current position as a Junior Project Coordinator, overseeing multiple teams and collaborating with renowned brands like Lego, Warner Brothers, and Marvel.

Throughout his career, Alex emphasises the importance of humility, accountability, and continuous learning, “Network. Find out about local networking events in your area or get yourself on Linkedin, ask questions, make contacts, get to know the industry and you never know who might remember you. Be kind. The games industry is, for all its global scale, is surprisingly close knit. I’ve known more cases of people who felt they could just act up than I could care to count, and they’re all blacklisted because word really does get around. Have some decorum and look out for others. Be a team player. No one will want anything to do with you otherwise, kind of goes without saying.”

The Games Design course at Coventry College offers a comprehensive and immersive learning experience, providing students with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to excel in the games industry. With state-of-the-art facilities, mentorship from industry professionals, and opportunities to participate in esports events, game jams, and industry conferences, students can immerse themselves in the dynamic world of game development and prepare for rewarding careers.

Alex’s story serves as an inspiration for future students, highlighting the opportunities and possibilities available through the Games Design course at Coventry College.
