Travel and Tourism Student Bethanie-Rose Shines During Work Experience with TUI

Travel and Tourism student Bethanie-Rose has returned from a successful work experience placement with global travel company TUI, describing the opportunity as “an experience I would do again in a blink of an eye.”

During her time at TUI, Bethanie-Rose took on multiple roles within the branch, gaining insight into both marketing and customer service. She supported the team by writing and designing display boards, assisting with marketing activities, and shadowing Travel Advisors to understand how holidays are planned, priced, and sold.

She was also trusted with her own responsibilities, including creating a full display board and designing package holiday ideas that could be promoted to customers. These tasks allowed her to make a real contribution to the store while learning how industry professionals build and present travel products.

Reflecting on the skills she gained, Bethanie-Rose said the experience helped her grow in confidence when talking to new people, while also expanding her knowledge of the travel sector and the way businesses like TUI operate.

Her college course prepared her thoroughly for the placement. In the eight weeks prior, students spent time reviewing PowerPoints and exploring what might happen during the placement, helping Bethanie-Rose feel ready and capable when she stepped into the workplace.

One of the most influential moments came when she spoke to a grounded cabin crew member at the branch. Hearing first-hand about their career sparked a new ambition for Bethanie-Rose, who now hopes to pursue a future as cabin crew.

Looking back, she described the placement as a highlight of her course.

“I loved the work experience,” she said. “If I could do it again, or get a job there, I would do it in a blink of an eye.”

Bethanie-Rose’s experience shows the value of hands-on industry opportunities and the inspiration they can provide for future career paths.
