Student Ambassadors Make Change
Coventry College recently hosted a dynamic learner conference for its elected student ambassadors, aimed at empowering students and ensuring their voices are heard within the college community.
The event proved to be a significant milestone in fostering a culture of open communication and continuous improvement.
The conference commenced with an inspiring keynote speech from Kheron Gilpin, an engagement specialist with a talent for public speaking. Kheron passionately spoke about the importance of using one’s voice to effect change. Kheron’s speech resonated deeply with the students, motivating them to take an active role in their educational journey and beyond. Following the keynote, students had the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session with Kheron, sharing their thoughts and asking insightful questions.
The morning continued with a carousel session, where learners had the unique chance to speak one-on-one with various departments within the college. These included Quality Assurance, Wellbeing & Safeguarding, Additional Learning Support, Careers, Work Experience, Estates and Security, IT, and Personal Development. The carousel format allowed students to directly voice their concerns, questions, and suggestions to staff members, who diligently took note of the feedback to make plans and adaptations aimed at enhancing the learner experience.
This interactive session proved to be extremely beneficial, as it facilitated open dialogue between students and staff, ensuring that student concerns are addressed, and their needs are met. The direct communication helped to build trust and transparency, reinforcing the college’s commitment to creating a supportive and responsive learning environment.
In the afternoon, Principal Carol led an open Q&A session, addressing a wide range of questions from the learners. This session provided another platform for students to express their views and seek clarification on various topics. Principal Carol’s willingness to engage directly with the students highlighted the college’s dedication to student centred decision-making.
To close the day, Kheron Gilpin delivered a final keynote, expressing gratitude to the learners for their active participation, hard work, and motivation. Kheron’s closing remarks underscored the importance of student engagement and the positive impact it has on the college community.
Events like this learner conference are vital to Coventry College as they ensure that students feel heard and valued. By actively listening to student feedback and making changes based on their advice, the college can create a more comfortable and welcoming environment for all. The success of this conference is a testament to the college’s commitment to continuous improvement and student empowerment.
Coventry College is proud of its student ambassadors and looks forward to implementing the valuable insights gained from this conference, further enhancing the educational experience for all learners.
