Media Student Lands Voice Role in Regional Radio Campaign

A second year Level 3 Creative Media student at Coventry College has had a remarkable opportunity to showcase his talent, becoming the voice of the college in a series of radio adverts broadcast across the West Midlands.
Tommy Conroy was selected after the college launched a radio campaign to promote upcoming open events and decided to put student talent at the heart of the project. The Creative Media department organised auditions, inviting students to produce audio recordings in the hope of being featured on air.
After reviewing the submissions, Bauer Media, the company working alongside the college on the campaign, was impressed by the quality of student work and strongly supported the idea of using a student voice. Laura Baker, Account Manager for Bauer Media, even took time out of her schedule to visit the college and meet the winning student in person.
Tommy was given the chance to record the advert with Laura present in the college’s recording studio, where he received professional tips and guidance throughout the session. Laura praised Tommy’s performance, noting how natural and confident he was behind the microphone.
Beyond his college work, Tommy has already begun building his profile in the media industry. He recently launched his own online radio show, ‘Sound of the City’, which focuses on interviewing up-and-coming local artists and shining a light on emerging talent.
Speaking about the experience, Tommy said: “I am very excited for the release of the radio advert, and I will be extremely excited to hear it when it goes live.”
With ambitions to progress to university and pursue a career in radio or journalism, Tommy’s dedication and growing experience highlight the opportunities available to students at Coventry College and suggest a promising future ahead.
