44 students from Level 2 Sport and Level 2 Public Services courses worked with the team at Sky Blues in the Community to take part in a range of challenges and activities.

They will each receive a certificate signed by the Prime Minister for their work on the programme, which is recognised by colleges, universities and employers and enhances each student’s CV.

In their first week, students completed a range of outdoor activities that saw them challenged physically and also tested their ability to work in a team.

They also learned about first aid and team-building and took part in a public speaking masterclass to help improve their confidence.

In the second week, they got to plan and deliver 30 hours of social action projects and worked together to raise money for a charity of their choice.

It saw money raised for Cancer Research, the RSPCA, the UNICEF Vaccine Appeal and Children in Need through a range of activities from penalty shoot-outs through to prize raffles.

After their sterling efforts, they will be presented with their certificates at Coventry’s crucial clash with Stoke City at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Saturday, December 18.

Sam Flatley, Sky Blues in the Community’s National Citizen Service Education Manager, said: “The young people from Coventry College were a privilege to have as part of the NCS Autumn programme and did the college very proud.

“The students showed great motivation and creativity in planning and delivering four great social action projects that supported many charities by raising a substantial amount of money.

“The NCS programme has given the young people a fantastic experience, with lots of learning and challenges met and developed over the programme duration.”

Kelly Ward, Curriculum Manager for Sport and Uniformed Public Services at Coventry College, said: “All of our students across both courses were extremely enthusiastic about taking part in this project, and delivered some excellent results.

“The fact that their achievements will be celebrated at a Coventry City home game is fantastic, and I’d like to thank Sky Blues in the Community for helping to make this happen.”
