Esports Students Host Successful CORA Event in Partnership with Carers Trust
Coventry College’s Esports students recently teamed up with Carers Trust to host an exciting and interactive event, CORA (Carers Trust Online Ranked Adventures), aimed at engaging young people and showcasing the opportunities available to them after leaving school. The event, which was a resounding success, featured a mix of fun-filled activities, including gaming on consoles, karaoke, and quizzes – all with the chance to win prizes.
Held at Coventry College, the event welcomed young people from local secondary schools as well as current college students interested in exploring the growing field of esports. The goal was not only to provide entertainment but also to inform attendees about the academic and career pathways available through Coventry College’s Esports courses.
The CORA event offered something for everyone. From competitive gaming on popular consoles to lively karaoke sessions and brain-teasing quizzes, the activities encouraged participation and brought together students, carers, and young people from across the city. The event created a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere, with attendees enjoying the opportunity to relax, unwind, and learn more about their futures in a supportive environment.
For the Coventry College Esports students who organised the event, CORA provided invaluable hands-on experience in professionalism, event planning, and marketing. From promoting the event to managing logistics and ensuring everything ran smoothly on the day, the students demonstrated teamwork, creativity, and dedication.
Richard Breislin, Esports lecturer at Coventry College, said:
“Going into this project I had high hopes for my students because I knew this is something they would excel in, and they were all looking forward to it. They exceeded all my high expectations with how successful the event went. I couldn’t be prouder of them; I am really blessed as a teacher to have some incredibly talented students as part of my cohort and all the success and praise goes to them for creating such an amazing Esport event.”
Lailah Finch, an Esports student involved in organising the event, shared their experience:
“I thought the Friday event turned out really well, even with my doubts and worry especially having to host, but both organising and doing the event was definitely a positive experience that developed me as a person in my confidence, organisation and public speaking.”
The event was also a valuable opportunity to inspire the next generation of students. By inviting young people from local secondary schools, CORA provided a glimpse into the exciting world of esports and the educational pathways available at Coventry College. For many, it was a chance to explore a career in a rapidly growing industry while learning about the transferable skills, teamwork, and professionalism that the Esports course fosters.
The success of CORA has set the stage for future collaborations between Coventry College and Carers Trust. Events like this highlight the power of community partnerships and the importance of engaging young people in meaningful, creative ways.
Coventry College’s Esports course continues to grow as a hub of innovation and opportunity, preparing students for a range of careers in gaming, marketing, events management, and beyond.
