Traineeships – Inspire The Next Generation

Traineeships are a springboard to tomorrow’s workforce and taking on a trainee can have a profound effect on your business in the short and long-term.

As well as helping you to play a key role in tackling youth unemployment nationally, traineeships will also benefit your business directly – helping you to grow and prosper.

If you’re not aware, these short government-funded programmes are for young people, aged 16-24 (usually lasting from six weeks to a year), who aren’t currently in employment and have little work experience but are focused on work and a future career.

They also target young people who haven’t achieved a full level 3 qualification.

If you’re a business considering trainees, you can receive a government payment of £1000 for each trainee (up to 10 trainees per employer).

But as well as this cash incentive what other benefits can traineeships bring?

    Increase your capacity and productivity

Traineeships give you an extended opportunity to find out what a young person is capable of and if they are a good fit for your business.

Most trainees are unemployed so they are eager to work and determined to succeed which could be a win-win for them and your business, leading to increased productivity.

Develop a loyal and talented workforce

Although as an employer you are not obliged to offer a permanent position to the trainee, if you do they are likely to be very grateful to you for giving them the opportunity to learn skills and get a foothold on the employment ladder.

That can lead to a happy, loyal and productive workplace where you reap the rewards of the trainees you have nurtured.

Provide training and mentoring experience for current employees

For many employees, progression and new responsibility is important.

Traineeships give members of your current workforce the chance to deliver training, teach trainees new skills and support them on their journey.

This is rewarding for both the trainee and the employee – giving them both opportunities for development within your business.

At Coventry College, we support businesses with traineeships in a wide range of areas such as Business Administration, Hospitality & Catering, Early Years, Construction, Sport, Motor Vehicle and Customer Service.
