Coventry College Welcomes Julia Kinniburgh, Director General from the Department for Education

The visit was an opportunity for Kinniburgh and her team to engage with students and staff, gaining valuable insights into the college’s teaching and learning practices.
Positive learning environments
During the visit, Kinniburgh toured several curriculum areas, including Construction, Performing Arts, and Electrical Insulation. She took time to meet with learners and lecturers, observing the high standard of teaching and the positive learning environments fostered at the college. The students had the opportunity to showcase what they have been learning this academic year, engaging in thoughtful discussions about their courses and career aspirations.
The Construction department was one of the highlights of the visit, where Kinniburgh visited a Level 3 Electrical Insulation class. The students in the class were eager to demonstrate their skills and knowledge, impressing Kinniburgh with their professionalism and expertise.
In addition to the Construction department, the Director General also visited the Performing Arts course, where students displayed their talents in a variety of performances and demonstrations. From dancing to singing, the Performing Arts learners showcased their dedication and creativity, leaving a lasting impression on the visiting guests.
Shaping futures
Following the tour, Kinniburgh sent an email to Coventry College Principal Carol Thomas, expressing her appreciation for the visit.
“It was a pleasure to tour the campus and see some of the classes in action. It was great meeting with the learners and lecturers, and we left with a much deeper understanding of the college’s journey” Kinniburgh wrote. “I was genuinely impressed with what we saw.”
A special thank you was extended to the lecturers whose classes were selected for the visit. Matt Hambridge (Electrical Insulation), Rebecca Gent, Holly Smith and Katie McDonagh (Performing Arts) were all praised for their contributions to the day’s success. Their commitment to delivering exceptional teaching and supporting their students’ growth and development was evident throughout the visit.
