Coventry College Students Receive £500 Cheque from Valspar Trade Paint Company After Special Workshop

Coventry College’s Painting and Decorating students were given a surprise boost this week when Valspar, the renowned paint company, presented them with a £500 cheque to support their studies.
The generous donation, which will be used to purchase Valspar products for lessons, was announced after a day of interactive workshops and hands-on demonstrations.
On 20th November, Valspar visited the college to host a special day for the students, starting with an informative lecture. The session provided invaluable insights into what it’s like to work in the painting and decorating industry, as well as an overview of the various paints and materials used by professionals. Students had the opportunity to learn about complimentary colours, decorating techniques, and the tools of the trade, all delivered by experienced Valspar experts.
Following the lecture, students put their newfound knowledge into practice with a hands-on demonstration. Armed with Valspar materials, they were tasked with priming and painting door frames, putting their skills to the test under the guidance of the experts.

The event culminated in the announcement of the ‘Student of the Day,’ with Ryan Ballard selected for his outstanding participation and the best answers to a quiz that tested their knowledge of painting and decorating. However, the entire cohort was celebrated as Valspar also awarded the college a £500 cheque to further enhance their learning experience. This generous donation will allow students to work with high-quality Valspar products in future lessons, giving them even more opportunities to refine their craft.
The donation and the day’s workshop were seen as a fantastic opportunity for students to gain valuable industry insights and improve their skills with the latest products in the market.
Richard Joyce, Curriculum Manager for Construction said, “We were delighted to welcome Valspar Trade Paints to our college, our students were really engaged with the workshop which consisted of colour theory, various paints that Valspar produce. Then in the second part of the visit students got the opportunity to try out the different Valspar Trade paints. We’re also so thankful for their generous donation, which we plan to put towards buying new equipment for our P&D department, helping to ensure that students continue to get the best learning experience with us at Coventry College.”
With the support of Valspar and the practical skills gained through the workshop, the future looks bright for Coventry College’s Painting and Decorating students.
