Alexandru with his poetry award

Coventry College recently held a creative poetry and short story competition for its students. The challenge was to explore the theme of Equality through creative writing.

Students were tasked with curating either a short story of no more than 500 words or a poem that reflected their interpretation of this powerful theme.

The competition provided a platform for students to showcase their writing talents while engaging in an important social conversation.

After much deliberation, the English department were thrilled to announce Alexandru Cocosila, a Uniformed Public Service student, as the winner. Alexandru, who is also taking Maths and English, stood out with his two beautifully written entries that captured the essence of equality in a deeply impactful way. He not only received recognition for his powerful writing, but he also received a poetry book and pen, tools for him to carry on creating beautiful pieces of literature. His work left a lasting impression on the panel of judges with its vivid imagery, emotional depth, and insightful exploration of the theme.

One of Alexandru’s poems included these poignant lines:

“Forbidden love, a twisted game.

Morality’s threat caught in shame.

Manipulations hand. A fiery flame,

chaos within, their hearts to tame.”

These emotive lines highlight Alexandru’s ability to blend passion with thought-provoking commentary, perfectly capturing the complexities of equality and human emotions. Alexandru took the time to explain to the English department where his inspiration came from, adding a personal layer to his already moving writing.

Aimee Poll, the English Curriculum Manager at Coventry College, praised Alexandru for his exceptional talent, stating, “He is a wonderful romantic writer and loves creating poetry. His ability to express deep emotions and reflect on social themes is impressive. We are hopeful that he will be able to dazzle the examiners with his writing in the upcoming GCSE summer exam.”

The competition not only celebrated the creativity of students but also served as an important reminder of the relevance of equality in today’s world. By encouraging students to engage with such a meaningful theme, Coventry College has inspired a generation of young writers to reflect on societal issues and use their voices to challenge norms.

As the winner of the competition, Alexandru’s work will be shared within the college, and his achievements will be celebrated as an example of how art and literature can spark important discussions around equality and social justice.

Congratulations to Alexandru Cocosila on his well-deserved win! We can’t wait to see where his writing journey takes him next.
