Coventry College Celebrates Work Experience Week: Bridging the Gap Between Education and Employment
Coventry College is celebrating Work Experience Week, an initiative created to raise the profile of work placements both within the college and with local employers.
Coventry Colleges Industry Placement Team consistently works to build strong relationships with students and businesses to ensure that placements align with students’ courses and career goals. This is to ensure our students get the best possible experience out of their placement.
The college believes that work experience not only teaches students valuable work professionalism and soft skills but also provides them with the opportunity to use industry-specific tools and equipment that may not be available within the college and classroom setting.
Science students saw the benefits of Work Experience week when they were given the unique opportunity to apply for voluntary work placements at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW). Coventry College has previously partnered with the hospital earlier in the academic year, where five students successfully completed their work placements, gaining hands-on experience with radiotherapy and other hospital equipment.
The science students were so inspired by their placement, one student even chose to do a write up on her time stating, “the team willingly shared their contacts for future help and advice, as well as addressing concerns I had about the career.” The feedback from hospital staff was also overwhelmingly positive, praising the students for their professionalism and enthusiasm.
As a result, UHCW has opened up a second round of applications for students, further strengthening the collaboration with Coventry College.
Meanwhile, Sports students could also be in line for an exciting opportunity with Sky Blues in the Community, with the potential for placements at the CBS Arena, home to Coventry City Football Club. An amazing opportunity for any proud Coventry sports fan.
In another exciting development this week, Hair and Beauty students had the chance to meet representatives from Kings Trust, a charity that provides free courses aimed at helping individuals gain the skills and confidence needed to start their own businesses. This session was especially impactful for Hair and Beauty students who aspire to open their own salons once leaving college. The talk from the Kings Trust provided them with invaluable insight into the entrepreneurial side of the Hair and Beauty industry.
Meanwhile, Level 3 Motor Vehicle students were visited by Listers a reputable car company, where they received a career talk ending with the opportunity to apply for work placements with the company. Previous Coventry College students who completed their placements at Listers have gone on to secure permanent positions due to their professionalism and hands-on knowledge, showcasing the real-world value of these work experience opportunities.
At Coventry College, we are committed to ensuring that our students are work-ready when they leave. By offering a range of placements and collaborations with local businesses, we provide our students with the skills, experience, and connections they need to succeed in their chosen industries. Work Experience Week is just one of the many ways the college supports students in their transition from education to employment, preparing them for a successful future.
