Course Overview

During this Apprenticeship you’ll develop the sports knowledge and skills to design and deliver coaching programmes within schools, the community or high-performance sporting environments that engage, motivate and evolve participants’ skills and performance.

You’ll develop the skills and behaviours to interact with and influence coaching teams through the design and delivery of their own coaching philosophy and professional practices in line with the organisational visions, strategies, policies and processes.

You’ll also learn how to influence professional and governing bodies through your own practice.

As part of the role, you’ll be required to measure the impact of your coaching strategies through analysis of participant, coach, coaching team and organisational perception and performance data. This is then benchmarked against local, national and international trends relevant to the environment in which you are coaching.

You’ll work both autonomously and collaboratively to deliver progressive programmes that align to wider curriculum plans. These are tailored to individuals and diverse groups of participants based on robust profiling techniques and whole person development needs.

Duration of study

18 months.

How you’ll be assessed

One of our Assessors will visit you in the workplace to observe the development of your skills and behaviours. You may also be assessed via:

  • An end-point assessment
  • Practical observation
  • Question and answer sessions
  • Professional discussion supported by a portfolio of evidence.

Career and progression possibilities

On completion of this Apprenticeship, you can progress onto a Degree level qualification, or you’ll be qualified to apply for various roles in sports coaching.
