The Pearson BTEC Level 4 HNC in Sport (Coaching and Sports Development) is a full time course over 1 year with a minimum of 120 credits of which 45 are mandatory core.

The Pearson BTEC Level 5 HND in Sport (Coaching and Sports Development) is a full time course over 2 years with a minimum of 240 credits of which 95 are mandatory core.

The HND provides a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required for a range of careers in the Sports sector. It is nationally recognised by employers and allows progression directly into the sector.

You will be studying:

Year 1 (HNC):

  • Applied sports coaching
  • The evolution of sports development
  • The sport and leisure industry
  • Sport and exercise psychology
  • Nutrition for sport and exercise
  • Training and fitness for sport and exercise
  • Injury prevention and treatment in sport and exercise
  • Sport and exercise massage

Year 2 (HND)

  • Research project
  • Principles of sports coaching
  • Applied sports coaching
  • Managing sports development
  • Anatomy and physiology for sport and exercise
  • Field-based fitness testing for sport and exercise
  • Work-based experience
  • Analysis of sports performance
  • Sport and exercise rehabilitation

Methods of assessment are specifically designed to replicate industry requirements and prepare you for employment and further study. Examples include: written assignments, practical assessments, video analysis, presentations, research methods, work placement assessments and exams.

On successful completion of the HND, you can apply for a third year to achieve a full degree in sport. The course will provide you with the right employability skills to apply for a range of jobs including – Sports Coach, Sports Development Officer, Performance Analyst, Sports Therapist and Sports Scientist.

Fees Policy: After enrolling at the College, you have a “cooling off period” of 14 days in which you may change your mind, withdraw their registration and cancel the contract with the College. Written notice of cancellation must be given to the College within the 14-day period though reasons for cancellation will not be required. If the cancellation is carried out in this way, the College will refund any tuition fees already paid.

  • GCSE – Five GCSE subjects at grade 4 (C) or above including maths and English Language. An accepted alternative qualification is Functional Skills English/maths Level 2. International learners must evidence English Language abilities at IELTS Level 5.5 or above in both oral and written skills.
  • A Level – We will make offers based on the following qualifications individually and when they are combined with others:
    • 120 UCAS points with a minimum of Grade D from at least one A Levels
  • BTECs – We will make offers based on the following qualifications individually and when they are combined with others:
    • BTEC National Diploma – Grades: Pass, Merit, BTEC Extended Diploma- Grades: Pass, Pass, Pass, BTEC Subsidiary Diploma – Grade: Distinction
      Access – Pass in Access Diploma – we may specify particular grades in certain Level 3 units.
  • Apprenticeships – Applications from Advanced Apprenticeships are welcomed.
