This qualification is an excellent introduction to the realm of Interior and Architectural Design. Here at Coventry College, you will be trained in the skills necessary to progress onto University or an apprenticeship to start your design career. With an emphasis on practical outputs, we aim to offer our students a hands-on experience to the course, creating a range of structures and interior surfaces. Students develop their skills over the course of two academic years. Starting with skills development, students expand their knowledge of basic design processes. Following this, students develop the confidence to respond to live briefs, in the form of a final major project. This course includes:

  • Visits to Galleries
  • Guest Speakers
  • Possible Work Placements
  • Industry Standard Software
  • Advanced Drawing skills development
  • Professional working facilities, including a design hub and 3D Workshop
  • Architectural and Interior Model building
  • Client based briefs
  • Project orientated learning
  • Digital and Traditional making and design techniques

The units we cover: A1: Skills Development A2: Creative Project B1: Personal Progression B2: Creative Industry Response Things you will learn:

  • Technical drawing skills
  • Perspective Drawing
  • The fundamentals of design
  • Health and Safety training
  • 3D Workshop training – use of bandsaw, lathe, laser cutter etc.
  • Use of markers and illustration techniques
  • How to respond and work to a client brief
  • Use of Sketchup pro Photoshop and additional CAD and rendering packages
  • 3D material construction techniques
  • Art based skills for interior design development

This course requires 4 GCSEs at Grade 4 (C in the old grade structure) or above including an art based subject
OR a relevant Level 2 qualification in an art based subject at Merit Level & GCSE/Level 2 in English & maths.

A portfolio of your work is required for presentation at interview.

This course is free for 16-18yrs; for 19-23yrs, course is free if you have not achieved a full Level 2 qualification.

If you're aged 19+ you may be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of the course.

Fees and funding

If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
