Level 3 Diploma in Plumbing Studies
Many of our former students have gained and found employment after completion of the City and Guilds plumbing qualifications, and as a recognised qualification in the industry it’s a great way to start your plumbing career.
There are mandatory units to be completed including:
- Health and Safety in building services engineering
- Understanding the fundamental principles and requirements of environmental technology systems
- Complex cold water systems
- Domestic hot water systems
- Sanitation and drainage systems
- Central heating systems
- Domestic gas principles
- Career awareness in building services engineering
There are written and online assignments. The course will be assessed by observation of your practical activities by an assessor and also job knowledge will be assessed by the completion of a written portfolio and demonstration of knowledge. There will also be theory based classroom work and online exams.
This qualification is intended for those who want to gain the knowledge and abilities that will enable you to gain the underpinning knowledge to progress onto a plumbing Apprenticeship program.
To be recognised as competent you will need the NVQ part of the qualification.
This course is a Study Programme which consists of

* If you have not already achieved a GCSE pass at grade 4 (C in the old grading structure) or above in English and Maths you will study Maths and/ or English as an integral part of your college programme.
Completion of City and Guilds 6035 Level 2
Minimum grade 4 in English and maths or equivalent
This course is free for 16-18yrs; for 19-23yrs, course is free if you have not achieved a full Level 2 qualification.

Making your application
We will check your application to see if you meet the standard entry requirements for the course. If you do, you’ll receive an invitation via email to attend an interview with a Curriculum Tutor.
Fees and funding
If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
From entry-level qualifications, through to degree-level and specialist professional courses there’s something here for students with little or no formal education right up to career high-flyers. Expect a vibrant environment where you can meet people from different backgrounds and cultures.
