This course provides you with the knowledge, understanding and the practical skills for an exciting career in the nail industry. By the end of the course you will be able to both apply and maintain liquid and powder enhancements and UV gel enhancements. You will be able to create a beautiful pink and white set of enhancements, using tip, overlay and sculpting safely use an electric nail file and create advanced nail art.

The course is approximately 35% theory and 65% practical

You will study:

  • Health & safety
  • Customer care and communication
  • Salon management
  • UV gel nail enhancements – Traditional French finish and full colour
  • Liquid and powder nail enhancements – Traditional French finish and full colour
  • Safe use of electric nail files
  • Advanced nail art – including 3D and embedding
  • Airbrushed nail art

The course will includes visits to national exhibitions and guest speakers/trainers to keep you up-to-date with the latest developments within the industry. In house competitions take place termly, with prizes relevant to the course. You will get to work in our realistic working environment, Salon 50, on paying clients, to enhance your practical skills and develop your communication/consultation skills.

You will be assessed by a range of methods, these include observation for practical units and online examinations.

Depending on your aims and aspirations, successful completion of this course will enable you seek employment within a salon, on a Cruise ship or you may even want to start your own business. Alternatively, you may wish to add other skills to your repertoire and enrol on one of our hairdressing or beauty courses – thus giving you the skills to offer the full package to your future clients.

 

Either completion of a Certificate or Diploma at Level 2 in Nail Technology. or suitable industry experience, or Two GCSE grades 9-4 (A-C) preferably in English and Maths.

You should have good communication skills, and a positive attitude to learning and enjoy working with your hands.
16-18 year olds who do not possess a grade 4 in English and Maths will be required to resit these subjects

The course is free for under 19’s
For all adult learners, fees do apply and will be confirmed at enrolment. Student funding advice is available from college to support with this.

You will be required to purchase a kit and professional salon wear – details of these will be given at enrolment. Should you be on a low income you can apply to our learner support fund to help purchase these.

Fees and funding

If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
