This is the qualification most salons expect for you to work as a stylist. Developing your knowledge using advanced techniques, you will become more experienced and confident. Our commercially equipped Salon 50 is open to the public and allows you to practice these skills, preparing you for employment in the industry.

Course Structure


You will be studying:

  • How to monitor and maintain health and safety in the salon
  • Consultation skills and support for colleagues in the salon
  • Advanced cutting skills
  • Styling hair to create a variety of looks
  • Advanced colouring
  • Advanced perming
  • Providing colour correction services
  • Creative design skills

You will take part in competitions to showcase your creative skills and have the opportunity to attend industry events. An optional hair extension course is available. Assessment is through online exams, assignments and observation of practical skills If you are intending to progress to University after college please note that the majority of Universities will expect a grade C English and Maths GCSE and you will need to consider this when applying for a level three course. We offer English and Maths GCSE retakes with specific entry requirements. The hairdressing industry is a major employer in the UK. You can progress to salon employment, salon management, freelance as a mobile hairdresser or working in theatre/ TV, employed as a colour or retail specialist and trainer for a product company, working abroad in hotels or on cruise ships. You can enhance your employability within the industry with a Level 2 in Barbering, accredited hair extension courses and advanced creative styling skills.

Either completion of Level 2 in Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy or 4 GCSE grade 3 or above including maths and English and a positive school report. Mature learners need to have good personal presentation and communication skills. ESOL level 1 in Speaking , Listening , Reading & Writing.

A practical activity and a short written test will be given at interview to assess suitability.

Course fee £3345; Exam Fee £114

Please note that the purchase of kits and uniforms is mandatory. Cost of kits and uniform start at around £200, tutors will give more information at enrolment and give you order forms. Funding from the Learner Support Fund may be available if you are eligible.

Making your application

Fees and funding

If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
