Level 3 Diploma in Hair & Media Make-up
This exciting course is designed to bring out your creativity and flair for media make-up in readiness for a career in this competitive industry. The diploma covers theatrical, special effects and hair and media make-up in an enlivening course covering a vast range of skills from; fashion make-up, application of prosthetic pieces, airbrushing, creative hair-styling, wig work and much more. This programme of study will interest students who would like to work within the creative make-up industry, such as fashion, photographic studio’s, theatre or preparation for higher education.
Our course consists of both practical and theory aspects of hairstyling and media make-up:
- Working in hair and beauty industries
- Health and safety in the salon
- Client Care and communication in hair and beauty industries
- Creative hair design
- Style and fit a pastiche
- Style and dress hair
- Fashion and photographic make-up
- Airbrush make-up, Camouflage make-up, Media make-up
You will need to have a creative flair with good dexterity skills and attend group and individual tutorials. There will be external trips and competitions that you will need to attend as part of this course. You will attend college for around 15hrs over 3 days over 1 year, some classes may have a late finish after 6pm.
The Make-up industry has an accepted dress code and all students will be expected to comply with these standards of dress when working in the Salon.
This course is a Study Programme which consists of:
- Vocational Qualification
- Work Experience
* If you have not already achieved a GCSE pass at grade C or above in English and Maths you will study Maths and/ or English as an integral part of your college programme.
4 GCSEs at Grade 4 (C in the old grading structure) or above including one in English or maths.
Relevant Level 2 qualification at Merit Level with GCSE/Level 2 in English & maths. If you have a Pass grade you will complete an additional assessment to check course suitability.
As part of your practical assessments, you will perform make over practical sessions and will be responsible for providing models if not working on peers.
Making your application
We will check your application to see if you meet the standard entry requirements for the course. If you do, you’ll receive an invitation via email to attend an interview with a Curriculum Tutor.
Fees and funding
If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
From entry-level qualifications, through to degree-level and specialist professional courses there’s something here for students with little or no formal education right up to career high-flyers. Expect a vibrant environment where you can meet people from different backgrounds and cultures.
