Course Overview

The Extended Diploma in IT qualification is equivalent to 3 A Levels and offers you an introduction to the IT industry and in-depth exposure to personal computers, hardware and operating systems. It is based on both theory and practical hands on experience.

Course Structure

Units include:

  • Information Technology Systems
  • Creating Systems to Manage Information
  • Using Social Media in Business
  • Programming
  • IT Project Management
  • Cyber Security and Incident Management
  • IT Service Delivery

Alongside an additional six units designed to develop your skills and meet the needs of the local economy.

You will be assessed via coursework assignments, set tasks and exams.

On successful completion of this course you could progress onto the HND in Computing at Coventry College or a degree at university. Alternatively, you can enter apprenticeships or employment in areas such as software engineering, IT technical support and network administration.

If you are between 19 and 23 years of age when you start this course you may need to pay course fees. However, we can help you with our flexible payment plans.


A relevant Level 2 qualification with a merit/distinction profile and Functional Skills Level 2, or four relevant GCSEs Grade 4 (C) or above, including maths and English, plus a positive school report and the successful completion of an interview.

This course is free for 16-18yrs; for 19-23yrs, course is free if you have not achieved a full Level 2 qualification.
