Course Overview
This qualification is equivalent to 3 A Levels. It offers you an introduction to the IT industry and an in-depth exposure to personal computers, hardware and operating systems. It is based on both theory work and practical hands-on experience in our two specialist labs.
Course Structure
Units include:
- Information Technology Systems
- Creating Systems to Manage Information
- Using Social Media in Business
- Programming
- IT Project Management
- Cyber Security and Incident Management
- IT Service Delivery
This is alongside an additional six units that are reviewed annually and designed to help you develop key IT skills whilst also meeting the needs of the local economy.
You will be assessed through a combination of continuous assignment work and four exams. The exams will require hard work and commitment from day one.
Upon successful completion of this course, you could progress onto higher education (e.g. a HND or BSc). Alternatively, you could apply for an apprenticeship or enter employment in a range of roles including software engineering, IT technical support and network administration.
A relevant Level 2 IT qualification at Merit grade (MM) or five relevant GCSEs at grade 4 or above. Candidates will also need to attend an interview with a member of the teaching team.
Please note that applicants failing to achieve a grade 4 in both English and maths will be directed towards our Level 2 IT course.
This course is free for 16-18yrs; for 19-23yrs, course is free if you have not achieved a full Level 2 qualification.

Fees and funding
If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
