Course Overview

The Cisco IT Essentials course is designed for adults wishing to learn more about how computers function or those looking to upskill in the field of IT Technical Support.

Over 15 weeks of evening sessions, you will learn how to:

  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot computers and mobile devices.
  • Identify common security threats like phishing and spoofing.
  • Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills using both real equipment and Cisco Packet Tracer.

This course prepares you for CompTIA A+ Certification. Upon successfully completing the course, learners are encouraged to independently register for the CompTIA A+ exam at a Pearson VUE test centre.

  • Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills using both real equipment and Cisco Packet Tracer.

This course prepares you for CompTIA A+ Certification. Upon successfully completing the course, learners are encouraged to independently register for the CompTIA A+ exam at a Pearson VUE test centre.

Candidates must be over 19 and proficient in English and maths and using computers. There is an expectation that you will hold or be studying towards Level 2 qualifications in English and maths. For example, GCSE or Level 2 Functional Skills.

This course is free If you live in the West Midlands Combined Authority area. To be eligible for this funding you must:

  • Be 19+ years old
  • Live in the West Midlands
  • Be on a low wage below £30,000 or unemployed.

For 19-23-year olds the course is free if you have not achieved a full Level 3 qualification.

If you do not meet the above criteria, the course fees are £298, 19+ learners may be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of the course (and are advised to apply as soon as they are accepted on the course).

Fees and funding

If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
