Level 3 Award in Education & Training
The City & Guilds Award in Education and Training at Coventry College is ideal for anyone wanting to become a lecturer, assessor or work-based trainer at a College or in a company involved in post-16 training or post-compulsory education.
The Award in Education and Training is an evening course studied over a 12-week period. You will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to begin, or re-focus, a career in teaching for the lifelong learning sector or training within industry. Whilst the course is not a teacher training qualification, it will give you a basic toolkit of teacher training techniques and will encourage you to develop the skills you need to be effective in your new job or current role.
If you are already in a teaching role you may wish to consider the Diploma in Education and Training.
The award comprises three units covering key aspects of teaching and learning. You will attend one evening session per week for 12 weeks
The units you will study are:
- Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
- Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training
- Understanding assessment in education and training
You must be considering a subject for delivery and be aiming to achieve or have achieved a qualification or experience for your subject/skill at the appropriate level.
You must be 19 years or over and will be expected to attend an interview and an initial assessment session. As the qualification is at level 3, you will need to achieve a minimum of level 1 in the literacy assessment.
You should have the ability to manage the requirements of the level of the qualification you are taking, read and interpret written tasks, and to write answers in a legible and understandable form. All assessment tasks must be word-processed and therefore good ICT skills are required, including PowerPoint. You will need to have time available for home study and be able to commit to the full twelve week programme
£300 per year.
Need help choosing the right career path? You’ll be given a series of activities related to a work environment. Your job is to slide the scale to the left or right depending on how much you like or dislike the given activity. You will receive recommendations based on your selections.
Fees and funding
If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
From entry-level qualifications, through to degree-level and specialist professional courses there’s something here for students with little or no formal education right up to career high-flyers. Expect a vibrant environment where you can meet people from different backgrounds and cultures.
