The City & Guilds Award in Education and Training at Coventry College is ideal for anyone wanting to become a lecturer, assessor or work-based trainer at a College or in a company involved in post-16 training or post-compulsory education. The Award in Education and Training is an evening course studied over a 14-week period. You will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to begin, or re-focus, a career in teaching for the lifelong learning sector or training within industry.

Whilst the course is not a teacher training qualification, it will give you a basic toolkit of teacher training techniques and will encourage you to develop the skills you need to be effective in your new job or current role. If you are already in a teaching role you may wish to consider the Diploma in Education and Training. The award comprises three units covering key aspects of teaching and learning. You will attend one evening session per week for 14 weeks The units you will study are:

  • Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
  • Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training
  • Understanding assessment in education and training

You must be considering a subject for delivery and be aiming to achieve or have achieved a qualification or experience for your subject/skill at the appropriate level.

Level 2 Functional skills in English or a L2 vocational qualification may be considered.

All applicants will be required to undertake a written screening assessment

£300 per year.

Fees and funding

If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
