Level 3 Access to Higher Education – Health Professionals
This course is for learners who are 19 and over.
The Access to Higher Education course prepares you to study at university and is also widely recognised by employers. It is designed for those who have left school without the usual qualifications such as A Levels.
The hours of study consist of 10 mandatory class contact hours per week. You will also need to commit to self study outside of class times.
Within the course we offer 3 subjects which have been especially selected to fulfil university entry requirements:
- Sociology & Health Studies
You will study a range of modules that will make up 45 credits:
- The Human Muscular and Skeletal System
- Human Nutrition and Digestive System
- Social Psychology
- Abnormal Psychology
- Sociology of the Family
- Health Promotions
In addition to the 45 credits a further 15 credits will be ungraded, 6 credits will be from study skills and the further 9 credits will be from core modules.
You will be assessed via a range of methods including essays, reports, presentations, projects and examinations.
Upon successful completion of the course, you can progress to university to study subjects such as Mental Health Nursing, Adult Nursing, Midwifery, Learning Difficulties Nursing and many others.
Are You Under 18 and an International Student?
We are currently able to accept students from 16 years old on our EFL courses, however, please note that outside class, in and around the campus and outside of the College you are not formally supervised and when your parents sign the application form they are consenting to this arrangement.
This course can be studied at either the City Campus or Henley Campus.
You will need to show they have sufficient skills in English and maths, which means satisfying one of the following requirements: English GCSE grade 4 (C) or above, Level 2 or equivalent, maths GCSE grade 3 (D) or above, Level 1 or equivalent.
If the above criteria cannot be met you will be asked to complete a screening test at interview to determine the appropriate level.
Course is free if you have not achieved a full Level 2 qualification.

Making your application
We will check your application to see if you meet the standard entry requirements for the course. If you do, you’ll receive an invitation via email to attend an interview with a Curriculum Tutor.
Fees and funding
If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
From entry-level qualifications, through to degree-level and specialist professional courses there’s something here for students with little or no formal education right up to career high-flyers. Expect a vibrant environment where you can meet people from different backgrounds and cultures.
