Level 2 CACHE Certificate in the Principles of the Prevention and Control of Infection in Health Care Settings
What does the qualification cover? This qualification is to prepare you to either enter or progress within employment in the Health and Social Care sector. You will gain an understanding of the meaning of infection control and its importance, as well as how to prevent and control the spread of infection. Understanding the principles of infection prevention and control is essential when working within all healthcare settings. The importance of personal hygiene and health ensures you remain healthy in the workplace and do not either contribute to, or cause the spread of infection. Who is it suitable for? This qualification is designed for learners who are working within the health and social care sector or who are seeking employment in health and social care. This is a knowledge based qualification so can be achieved if not working in a health and social care sector. How is the qualification structured? To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of the Prevention and Control of Infection in Health Care Settings, you are required to successfully complete the mandatory units:
- Principles of the causes and spread of infection in health care settings
- Principles of the importance of personal hygiene and health in the prevention and control of infection in health care settings
- Principles of decontamination, cleaning and waste management in health care settings
- Principles of infection prevention and control in a health care setting
How is it assessed? To achieve the Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of the Prevention and Control of Infection in Health Care Settings, you must successfully demonstrate your achievement of all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the units. This is achieved by completing assessments provided in the learning resources. The Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of the Prevention and Control of Infection in Health Care Settings is internally assessed.
There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification. You need to be aged 19+ and resided in the EU for the last 3 years in order to access funding.
The course is free*, however, there is a charge of £50 which is payable if the student does not complete the course.

Fees and funding
If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
