What does the qualification cover?

This qualification will increase understanding of the principles of healthy eating and the role of maintaining health. It will increase confidence in planning and achieving a healthy diet and how an individuals dietary requirements change throughout life. It will enhance understanding of food labelling, eating disorders and the principles of food safety in a home environment.

This qualification is designed for a wide range of learners who are interested in improving their understanding of nutrition and healthy eating. You may wish to access this training with a view to progress to further qualifications or employment within Sport and Recreation, Exercise and Fitness, Hospitality and Catering or Health and Social Care.

How is the qualification structured?

To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Diet and Nutrition, you are required to successfully complete the mandatory units:

  • Explore principles of healthy eating
  • Consider nutritional needs of a variety of individuals
  • Use food and nutrition information to plan a healthy diet
  • The principles of weight management
  • Understand eating disorders
  • Principles of food safety for the home environment

 How is it assessed?

To achieve the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Nutrition and Health, you must successfully demonstrate your achievement of all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the units. This is achieved by completing assessments provided in the learning resources. The Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Nutrition and Health is internally assessed.

There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification. You must be aged 19+ and resided in the EU for the last 3 years in order to access funding.

The course is free*, however, there is a charge of £125 which is payable if the student does not complete the course.
