Level 2 CACHE Certificate in the Principles of Dementia Care
What does the qualification cover?
This qualification aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of the principles of caring for people with dementia. You will develop knowledge of person-centred care, the influence of positive communication methods, issues relating to the use of medication for people with dementia, and the importance of providing appropriate activities. You will understand the benefits of engaging in activities to enhance physical, mental and social well-being in a diverse range of settings.
Who is it suitable for?
The primary purpose of this qualification is to help you prepare to enter, or progress into employment within the health or social care sector in a variety of job roles where an understanding of dementia and the care of people with dementia is required. You can also take this qualification to support your progression into further learning within the health and social care sector.
How is the qualification structured?
To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Dementia Care, you are required to successfully complete the mandatory units:
- Dementia awareness
- The person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia
- Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia
- Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care
- Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person-centred approach
- Understand behaviour in the context of dementia
- Understand the benefits of engaging in activities in social care
How is it assessed?
To achieve the Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Dementia Care, you must successfully demonstrate your achievement of all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the units. This is achieved by completing assessments provided in the learning resources. The Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Dementia Care is internally assessed.
There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification. You need to be aged 19+ and resided in the EU for the last 3 years in order to access funding.
This course is free of charge, however, there is a charge of £50 which will be payable if you do not complete the course.
Making your application
We will check your application to see if you meet the standard entry requirements for the course. If you do, you’ll receive an invitation via email to attend an interview with a Curriculum Tutor.
Fees and funding
If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
