Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Exercise & Fitness


An Apprenticeship enables you to learn on the job and get paid while studying for a qualification. An Apprentice has employed status. However, if you do not have a job then we will help you find one.

This award gains entry to the REPs register at Level 2.

You will study:

  • Working with clients to help them to adhere to exercise and physical activity
  • Reflect on and develop your own roviding exercise and physical activity
  • Principles of exercise, fitness and health
  • Promote health, safety and welfare in active leisure and recreation

And 2 additional units chosen upon start of course depending on place of employment:

Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing

  • Anatomy and physiology for exercise
  • Know how to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity
  • Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment
  • Principles of exercise, fitness and health
  • Planning gym-based exercise
  • Instructing gym-based exercise

Active IQ Level 2 Award in Employment Awareness in Active Leisure and Learning

  • Understanding Employment Rights and Responsibilities
  • Understanding the Employing Organisation
  • Understanding the Active Leisure and Learning Sector
  • Functional skills English and maths – Functional Skills are the practical skills in English, maths that enable confidence, effectiveness and independence both at work and in everyday life.

This qualification can be assessed in the context of gym-based exercise and must be assessed in the workplace through real live work situations. What can you progress on to? Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Personal Training.
