This programme is an introduction to fashion and textiles. If you are interested in developing a good understanding of the design process and making of clothing, then this could be the course for you. You will have an interest in fashion and textiles and work on gaining skills and knowledge through a variety of projects. This programme consists of 14 mandatory credits which you will need to achieve over 5 units and 35 optional credits with each optional unit worth 6 credits. The total credits mandatory and optional combined are 49. Mandatory units are as follows:

  • Developing design ideas
  • Sampling fashion techniques
  • Understand how to work for a client to create a product
  • Create a website
  • Produce promotional publications.

Optional:

  • Contextual research
  • Textile decoration
  • Pattern cutting
  • Design
  • Garment construction.

Assessment:

  • Practical tasks
  • Knowledge and understanding tasks.

The programme is designed to provide you with an opportunity to progress onto a Level 3 programme.

There are no entry qualifications required but you will need to demonstrate a curiosity in fashion and an interest in exploring a range of creative skills and ideas as well as a good understanding of English and Maths.

If you're aged 19+ you may be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of the course.
