This one-year EAL course provides the essential knowledge and introductory skills for a future in Engineering. You will cover the core principles that underpin modern manufacturing while applying them in our workshops. This includes bench fitting using hand tools and traditional techniques, as well as operating manual lathes, milling machines and pillar drills. You will also develop more advanced skills, including CAD design, CNC simulators and industry-standard CNC machines.
The course is designed to help you understand how engineering processes work in practice, giving you both the technical theory and the hands-on experience expected by employers and higher-level courses. It can open the door to further study, such as a T Level in Engineering and Manufacturing (Machining and Toolmaking Technologies), or support progression into an Engineering apprenticeship, depending on your overall grades and performance.
During the course you will develop skills in:
• Engineering techniques (hand drawing)
• Milling
• Turning
• Bench fitting
• CAD (Computer Aided Design)
• CNC lathes
Following this course, learners may be able to progress onto our T Level programme in Machining and Toolmaking Technologies, or use the course as a strong foundation towards an apprenticeship
Entry requirements:
Two GCSEs at grade 4(C) or above in Maths, English or Science, or a Level 2 Diploma in Engineering. Relevant practical experience using lathes and milling machines is essential
