Level 2 Diploma in Uniformed Public Services
The structure of the course is such that there are milestones at certain points where you are required to be fully up to date with your work, enabling you to progress to the end, and a successful qualification. This is a course specifically designed for students who enjoy practical activities and are looking for a future in either the Public or Emergency Services. The course will be a practical and theory based course designed to develop basic key skills and subject knowledge.
You will study BTEC units at level 2 in the following subjects:
- Public Service Skills
- Career Planning and Employment for the Public Services
- Improving Health and Fitness
- Adventurous Activities and Teamwork for the Public Services
- Crime and its effects on Society
- Expedition skills for the Public Services
Throughout the Course there are various trips and Visits ranging from: Kayaking and Canoeing, Rock Climbing, Expedition and camping, Paintballing, Army fitness development day. Guest speakers from: The Police Force, Army (Careers and Serving Soldiers) Royal Marines, Royal Navy, Witness protection/support, NHS. The course is based on continual assessment with each of the 7 BTEC units being graded at pass level. The assessments will vary from individual written work to group presentations and practical assessments, gaining an overall pass, merit or distinction grade.
This course is a Study Programme which consists of:
- Vocational Qualification
- Work Experience
* If you have not already achieved a GCSE pass at grade C or above in English and Maths you will study Maths and/ or English as an integral part of your college programme.
4 GCSEs at Grade 3 (D in the old grading structure) or above including one in English or maths
Relevant Level 1 qualification with GCSE/Level 1 in English & maths.
Course is free for 16-18yrs; for 19-23yrs, course is free if you have not achieved a full Level 2 qualification.

Making your application
We will check your application to see if you meet the standard entry requirements for the course. If you do, you’ll receive an invitation via email to attend an interview with a Curriculum Tutor.
Fees and funding
If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
From entry-level qualifications, through to degree-level and specialist professional courses there’s something here for students with little or no formal education right up to career high-flyers. Expect a vibrant environment where you can meet people from different backgrounds and cultures.
