Course Overview
Continue on your journey towards a career as a painter and decorator in the construction industry with our Level 2 Painting and Decorating programme. The course is designed for learners who have already obtained a Level 1 qualification. It will provide you with the necessary practical skills and knowledge to progress to a Level 3 Diploma, Apprenticeship and possible employment.
The Diploma in Painting and Decorating Level 2 is a one year programme. It covers topics related to painting, decorating and general building and will give learners an understanding of the skills needed to work as a painter and decorator.
Painters and Decorators operate in domestic and commercial properties and carry out various types of work. Properties can include houses, schools, offices, hospitals, factories and construction new build sites. Working internally or externally, they work individually and/or as part of a team, applying water-borne and/or solvent-borne paint coatings and wall coverings. You will be taught how to apply different paint coatings and wall coverings, understand and comply with statutory, safety and environmental requirements. You will be responsible for your own work at this level working to achieving a high-quality finish within time constraints you will have key skills to problem solve and communicate with others to include clients and other associated trades

- Erecting and dismantling access/working platforms
- Moving, handling and storing resources
- Preparing surfaces for painting/decorating
- Producing and applying complex stencil designs
- Hanging standard paper wall coverings
- Producing broken colour effects
- Producing stencil designs using pre-cut stencil plates
The course also offers a basic understanding of Principles of Building including:
- Roof construction traditional and modern
- Foundation construction
- Flooring construction methods used
- Timber-frame construction
Additional information
You will be required, at all times, to wear safety boots and work trousers. To access the facilities inside the college, you will need a set of clean clothes and footwear to change in to.
Level 1 Diploma in Painting and Decorating and GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade 3 or above and be genuinely interested in the construction industry. Entry will be subject to a satisfactory reference and interview.
This course is free for those aged 16-18.
