About the course

This course is aimed at learners aged 19+ who are keen to start a career in the construction industry. It will appeal to anyone who wants to explore the practical elements of the building service and general construction sectors. You’ll gain good hand and employability skills through a wide range of practical elements, and cover some theory areas of the construction industry too. This qualification is ideal for anyone looking to work in construction or building maintenance. During the course, you will experience taster sessions in many construction areas and develop basic knowledge to help set you on the path to a skilled career. The course includes health, safety and welfare in construction; principles of building; painting and decorating; plastering; and plumbing & carpentry repairs.

*If you have not already achieved a GCSE pass at grade 4 or above in English and Maths you will study Maths and/or English as an integral part of your college programme. However, to get onto this course you will need to have achieved at least a grade 3 in English and Maths. (see entry requirements)

Fees and funding

If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
