Course Overview
This award aim is to provide the knowledge and skills to cut men’s hair into basic looks. The skills developed by the candidate will include club cutting, scissor over comb and the use of clippers and freehand cutting techniques. The knowledge acquired by the candidate will enable them to understand the main factors that need to be considered when cutting hair, the effect cutting hair at different angles has on the haircut, the importance of applying tension to the hair when cutting and safety considerations that must be taken into account. Learning outcomes for this award will be:

- provide a cutting service
This award will be assessed by:
- practical tasks
- knowledge and understanding task(s) in an assignment or an on-line test This course will run over 10 weeks, with attendance required for 3 hours per week with a required 2 hours independent learning per week.
Progression
Upon successful completion of the course, students can progress to Level 2 Hairdressing, seek employment or become self-employed.
This is an evening course and is aimed at learners aged 19 and over.
A relevant L2 hairdressing qualification is required to join this course, however, there is an expectation. Candidates who are working towards a Level 2 qualification may be given a written test and an interview to assess suitability.
£200. However, funding options available to learners depending on personal circumstances.
Please note that the purchase of kits and uniforms is mandatory. Cost of kits and uniform start at around £150. Tutors will give more information at enrolment and give you order forms. Funding from the Learner Support Fund may be available if you are eligible.

If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
