This level is ideal if you’re a school leaver with some engineering knowledge and experience, or you have completed a level 1 and require some further engineering skills in your role. You will develop your understanding and practical experience of specific engineering technologies. It can also be used as part of an Engineering Apprenticeship. To gain these qualifications, you must complete a range of mandatory and optional units, including:

  • Engineering technology
  • Bench Fitting
  • Milling
  • Turning

These qualifications can help you to progress in a wide range of engineering roles including:

  • Engineering operative
  • Engineering maintenance technician
  • Foundry moulder/core maker
  • Mechanical engineering technician
  • Sheet metal worker
  • Toolmaker/machine setter

This course requires two GCSEs grade 4 (C) or above in maths, English or science or a Level 1 Certificate in Engineering

Course may be free for 16-18yrs; for 19-23yrs, course is free if you have not achieved a full Level 2 qualification.

For all other students fees apply:
1st year course fee £1292; Exam Fee £87.

Fees and funding

If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
