Level 2 Certificate in an Introduction to Early Years Education and Care
This qualification enables you to develop the skills and knowledge needed to care for young children in the early years sector.
You will be studying key areas, including:
- Safeguarding; including health and safety
- Supporting children’s development and play
- Preparing children for school
You will also cover observation and planning and Functional Skills in maths and English. Placement is a requirement of the qualification; you will require a clear DBS check.
Assessment will take place through written unit assignments and tutor observations of your practical skills in a placement setting.
You may wish to progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Education and Care if you meet the entry requirements of a pass grade, a satisfactory reference and 80% attendance on the study programme.
This course requires four GCSEs Grade 3-1 (D-G) with a 3 (D) in English or maths or a Level 1 Diploma and a satisfactory reference and a successful interview with a member of the childcare team.
Course may be free for 16-18yrs; for 19-23yrs, course is free if you have not achieved a full Level 2 qualification.

1st year course fee is £709; exam fee is £103.
Making your application
We will check your application to see if you meet the standard entry requirements for the course. If you do, you’ll receive an invitation via email to attend an interview with a Curriculum Tutor.
Fees and funding
If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
From entry-level qualifications, through to degree-level and specialist professional courses there’s something here for students with little or no formal education right up to career high-flyers. Expect a vibrant environment where you can meet people from different backgrounds and cultures.
