This level is ideal for school leavers considering a career in engineering and will provide a basic understanding of engineering principles.
To earn this qualification, you must complete a range of mandatory and optional units, including:
- Carrying out basic fitting techniques
- Carrying out mechanical assembly
- Producing engineering drawings.
- Milling
- Turning
On completion of this course you can progress to:
- Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Manufacturing Technology.
These qualifications can help you to progress in a wide range of engineering roles including:
- Engineering operative
- Engineering maintenance technician
- Foundry moulder/core maker
- Mechanical engineering technician
- Sheet metal worker
- Toolmaker/machine setter
- Welder
2 GCSEs at Grade 2 (E in the old grading structure) or above, or a relevant entry level qualification.
English and maths at Entry 3 or above
Course may be free for 16-18yrs; for 19-23yrs, course is free if you have not achieved a full Level 2 qualification.
For all other students fees apply:
1st year course fee £471; Exam Fee £66.

If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
