“Culinary skills are a worldwide language and a skill for life.”

This qualification prepares you for employment in the Hospitality and Catering sector. You will develop skills in professional cookery and the food and beverage service in a realistic working environment.

You will be studying:

  • Food Preparation and Cookery Skills
  • Food and Drinks Service
  • Food Safety

You will be going on a work placement which is planned and prepared by the Hospitality and Catering team and you will gain nationally recognised Functional Skills qualification.

There are also visits to establishments in the industry, talks from guest speakers, as well as opportunities to enter competitions. All of the units will be assessed by a practical assessment and theory test and by written assignment.

You can progress to a Level 2 qualification in Catering or an apprenticeship. You could also enter the exciting culinary industry within Hotels, restaurants, holiday parks, pubs, sports venues, contract catering, cruise liners or the military to name but a few.

 

Course may be free for 16-18yrs; for 19-23yrs, course is free if you have not achieved a full Level 2 qualification.

1st year course fee £1292; Exam Fee £72

Loans & assistance are available from Student Services.

One GCSE grade 3-1 (D-G) in English or maths or equivalent related qualifications and a positive school report.

Making your application

We will check your application to see if you meet the standard entry requirements for the course. If you do, you’ll receive an invitation via email to attend an interview with a Curriculum Tutor.

Fees and funding

If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
