Level 1 Diploma in Health & Social Care
This is a beginners course, introducing you to a career in health and social care. This study programme includes Functional skills/GCSE English and maths, and a placement.
You will be studying:
- Being Organised
- Developing a Personal Progression Plan
- Working with Others
- Researching a Topic
and 6 from the following:
- Finding Out About Health and Social Care Services
- Communication Skills for Health and Social Care
- Making Healthy Snacks when Caring for People
- Advising Others about Healthy Lifestyles
- Providing a Creative Activity when Caring for People
- Supporting Others to Use Adapted Equipment Safely
- Measuring Older Adults’ Fitness Levels for Everyday Tasks
- Visiting a Health or Social Care Setting
The units you study will be internally assessed and all learners will have a one week placement over the year. On successful completion of this course if you have a with a merit profile you can progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or seek employment in a variety of care settings.
Three GCSEs grade 3 – 1 (D – G), or equivalent related qualification.
Course may be free for 16-18yrs; for 19-23yrs, course is free if you have not achieved a full Level 2 qualification.

1st year course fee is £1113; exam fee is £99.

Making your application
We will check your application to see if you meet the standard entry requirements for the course. If you do, you’ll receive an invitation via email to attend an interview with a Curriculum Tutor.
Fees and funding
If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
From entry-level qualifications, through to degree-level and specialist professional courses there’s something here for students with little or no formal education right up to career high-flyers. Expect a vibrant environment where you can meet people from different backgrounds and cultures.
