Level 1 Diploma in Electrical Installation
This is a hands-on and theoretical City & Guilds course where you learn some of the key skills required for a career in the Electrical sector of the Construction Industry. It’s designed for students who are interested in working within the construction industry and who would like to progress to level 2 and eventually level 3.
Students should choose to study at this level if they have none or limited experience of the construction sector. You are likely to be a school leaver or an adult without prior experience.
Subjects you study include:
- Basic Electrical Installation Practices and Technology
- Circuit Theory
- Practical Skills
- Health & Safety best practice
- Practical Techniques and Craft Practices
This course is a Study Programme which consists of:
- Vocational Qualification
- Work Experience
*If you have not already achieved a GCSE pass at grade C or above in English and Maths you will study Maths and/ or English as an integral part of your college programme.
You will require PPE (personal protective equipment) in order to start your course. You’ll need steel toe cap boots and a flame-retardant hi vis top.
This course requires English and maths at Grade D and 2 GCSEs at Grade E or above, or a relevant entry level qualification.
English and maths at Entry 3 or above.
This course is free for 16-18yrs; for 19-23yrs, course is free if you have not achieved a full Level 1 qualification.

Making your application
We will check your application to see if you meet the standard entry requirements for the course. If you do, you’ll receive an invitation via email to attend an interview with a Curriculum Tutor.
Fees and funding
If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
From entry-level qualifications, through to degree-level and specialist professional courses there’s something here for students with little or no formal education right up to career high-flyers. Expect a vibrant environment where you can meet people from different backgrounds and cultures.
