Overview

This Apprenticeship will teach you how to support, enhance and deliver the day-to-day operations and services of a leisure or fitness facility.

Working as part of a team, you’ll be responsible for a range of operational duties such as assisting with the opening and closing of the facility, undertaking routine maintenance of equipment, customer service duties, administration and IT tasks and maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the environment.

Alongside these operational functions you’ll ensure programmed activities and services are available for customers.

You’ll learn how to deliver excellent customer service as you’ll be the first point of contact for customers, responsible for answering queries and dealing with straightforward complaints.

You’ll develop a sound understanding of individual and group needs, including an understanding of how to maintain a safe and inclusive working environment in keeping with health and safety, safeguarding and equalities legislation.

The role requires empathy, professionalism and an ability to work flexibly. Usually, you’ll report to the duty manager and will typically cover a seven-day week on a rota basis resulting in shifts that may include weekends, early mornings, evenings and public holidays.

Alongside operational duties there are five key areas of work you’ll cover; leisure and fitness operations, lifeguard duties, swimming teaching duties, gym instruction and leading group activities.

Duration of study

12 months.

How you’ll be assessed

One of our Assessors will visit you in the workplace to observe the development of your skills and behaviours. You may also be assessed via:

  • An end-point assessment
  • Practical observation
  • Question and answer sessions
  • Professional discussion supported by a portfolio of evidence.

Career and progression possibilities

On completion of this Apprenticeship, you can progress onto a Level 3 course, or you’ll be qualified to apply for various roles within the leisure or fitness industry.

Level 1 English and Maths. You’ll also need to achieve your Level 2 English and Maths before you take your end-point assessment for the Apprenticeship.
