Course overview

This qualification is designed as a full-time, two-year programme of study for learners who want to focus on the uniformed protective services sector, with the aim of progressing to higher education to a related degree course. This qualification offers an alternative route to A levels. You will attend workshops and trips delivered by the emergency services and armed forces designed to prepare you for progression to your chosen career path.

What you’ll learn

Mandatory units of study include:

  • Developing Aspects of Physical Fitness for Entry to the Uniformed Services

  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Optional units may include:

  • Mental and Physical Wellbeing

  • Carry out Map Reading and Navigation across Open Country
  • Uniformed Services Hierarchy and Routine
  • Human Resources in the Uniformed Services
  • The Influence of UK Government, International Organisations and the Media on the Uniformed Services

  • Skills for Land-based Outdoor and Adventurous Activities

Kit

As a Uniformed Public Services learner you will be required to wear Coventry College kit at all times. More information regarding price and purchasing will be provided during Open Events, interviews or enrolment. You can also visit our online store.

Facilities

You will have access to our state-of-the-art facilities at the Alan Higgs Centre, including 3G outdoor pitches, 3G indoor dome pitch, strength and conditioning gyms, 50 metre Olympic swimming pool and analysis rooms.

At least 4 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including English and/or maths or Level 2 qualification at Merit or above plus English/maths at Grade 4 or equivalent.

Free for those aged 16-18.

If you're aged 19+ you may be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of the course.

Fees and funding

If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
