Sustainable Management course overview

  • Do you see things around your work that you want to change but don’t know how to impact them?
  • Do you want to move your career into the sustainability field but don’t have the needed skills or a relevant qualification?
  • Or are you currently in the field and would like to advance your knowledge?

This course is for you. The course is delivered virtually online by BEC on behalf of Coventry College as part of the Adult Education Skills Boot Camps funded by the WMCA.

The course is designed with industry experts to demystify sustainability for employees. It focuses on upskilling, so you can become a champion in sustainability and net zero, enabling you as an individual to support your business’s transition to a much more sustainable future. This course is designed for those wanting to become a sustainability expert and practitioner, or current sustainability managers looking to advance their knowledge and join a like minded community.

You will be taught from a project management perspective and not an academic or technical one.

You will receive a Certificate of Completion from BEC in partnership with Coventry College, showcasing your accomplishment to your current and future employers.

  • Other than a sought-after and respected qualification, you will also receive access to a community of practitioners, 1-1 mentoring and business development meetings and support in promotion within your organisation.
  • Understand the wider context of climate change, sustainability and how it relates to business now and in the future
  • Investigate different actions that can be taken, with understanding the potential of technology and innovation to enable sustainable practices
  • Define and explore stakeholders, and find reasons for collaboration
  • Develop integrated sustainability strategies and ensure they are implemented
  • Lead on articulating sustainability, and drive change
  • Explore the importance of communication, internally and externally

What you will learn

The course is split into 8 modules, seven core modules on sustainability and one module covering personal and professional skills development and will run over 8 consecutive weeks. You will receive free online specialist workshops and training taking place from the 6th of February to the 29th of March.

The virtual live sessions will be Mondays and Wednesdays 12pm-2pm every week, for 8 weeks.

If  you are not able to attend, you may watch the recordings but a minimum of 70% of live sessions will need to be attended for passing the course.

  • Module 1: Introduction to sustainability, business and governance
  • Module 2: Sustainability and business principles
  • Module 3*: Operations and internal focus
  • Module 4: Designing for a circular economy
  • Module 5*: Engaging stakeholders and supply chain
  • Module 6*: Roadmapping to sustainability
  • Module 7*: Behaviour change, comms and storytelling
  • Module 8: Your skills development

*Modules 3, 5, 6 and 7 will involve engagement with the company that the individual is representing to ensure that there is cross-collaboration as well as implementation and engagement.

In order to be eligible for the Sustainability Practitioners Course you will need:

A letter of recommendation from your line manager or someone in a similar position.

To demonstrate a role in the sustainability agenda in your company or that this course will help you become more involved.

To be aged 19 or over and have the right to work in the UK.

To live or work in the West Midlands area.

This fully-funded, 8-week course is delivered by BEC on behalf of Coventry College.

If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
