Course Overview
Alternative Academic Qualifications (AAQ) replace certain BTEC Level 3 qualifications. These exciting new training qualifications have been designed in partnership with universities and employers to create a more direct route into higher education and skilled employment.
You’ll combine knowledge with practical, career-focused training and get real-world experiences to develop the subject expertise and skills that employers and universities value.
AAQs are perfect if you want to progress to higher education while keeping your options open for a wide range of careers.
Cyber Security, Data and Applied Science
The Cyber Security pathway will give you hands on experience in protecting systems, analysing threats, digital forensic investigations and managing secure networks. You’ll develop technical expertise alongside essential skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, and independent learning through practical projects and real-world experiences.
In Data Analytics you’ll develop fundamental skills for gathering, storing, analysing and modelling data. You’ll also learn about the importance of data for digital marketing, machine learning and the Internet of Things.
The Applied Science element will provide you with a theoretical knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of science. You’ll cover core topics of biology, physics and chemistry and develop practical skills through researching, analysis, planning and performing laboratory investigations.

Career and Progression Possibilities
This AAQ pathway is equivalent to 3 A Levels, giving you the UCAS points to progress to University. Subjects and careers include; Computer Network Management, Cyber Security, Digital Forensics, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Information Technology, Digital Marketing, Biological Sciences, Health and Nursing, Life Sciences, Forensic Science, Human Biology.
4 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including English or Maths.
Free for those aged 16-18.

Fees and funding
If you are aged 16-18 and applying for a full-time programme, then you will not have to pay for your course. If you are aged 19+ then there may be a fee for your course.
