Nick Nattress, a Sport Level 3 student at Coventry College, has been awarded a prestigious sports scholarship to join the men’s rugby programme at St. Bonaventure University in America. Nick spoke to us about how his time at Coventry College on the Rugby Education Programme has prepared him for his journey across the pond.

Rugby Education Programme at Coventry College

Nick attributes much of his success to the comprehensive Rugby Education Programme at Coventry College. The College provided him with numerous opportunities to enhance his rugby skills by playing against some of the top college teams in the country. This competitive exposure was crucial for Nick, as it allowed him to gain practical experience and refine his abilities on the field.

“The college rugby programme is a great way to pursue your rugby career. It has helped me gain new skills and experiences from playing against some of the top colleges in the country,” said Nick. This hands-on experience was complemented by the invaluable support and guidance from his coaches, who provided specific feedback to help Nick improve his performance.

The coaches played a pivotal role in Nick’s development, offering continuous support and expertise. Their feedback was instrumental in helping Nick reach his full potential and achieve his goal of playing rugby overseas.

“The coaches have helped and supported me along the way, giving me specific feedback which has made me a better player helping me reach my goal of playing rugby overseas in America,” he added.

“The education side of the programme was just as important and I have had fantastic support from my tutors throughout my 2 years at Coventry College,” Nick added. This holistic approach ensured that Nick was well-prepared for the demands of being a student-athlete, both on and off the field.

Nick’s appreciation for his coaches and tutors is evident in his gratitude for their efforts. “I can’t thank my coaches and tutors enough as they have both helped me push past my limits and without their knowledge and experience I wouldn’t be where I am today,” he mentioned. Their combined support played a crucial role in Nick’s ability to excel academically and athletically.

Nick’s dedication and commitment to rugby were recognised by Pete Glackin, Head of Rugby at Coventry College. According to Pete, Nick demonstrated outstanding performance both on and off the pitch over the past two years. His leadership qualities were particularly noteworthy, as he served as the co-captain of the team during the season.

“Nick has been outstanding on and off the pitch over the last two years on the rugby programme and demonstrated high levels of dedication and commitment. Nick has showcased great leadership skills as co-captain this season and has been an integral part of the squad,” said Pete. Nick’s leadership skills and dedication made him a valuable member of the team, and his contributions were integral to the squad’s success.
