Why did you choose Coventry College?

Coventry College was the closest college to my home that offered the Access courses I needed. This convenience, coupled with the range of programmes available, made it the ideal choice for me as I sought to re-enter the world of education.

Describe your time at Coventry College

My time at Coventry College was incredibly rewarding. The Access course was enjoyable and provided me with the essential support I needed to navigate the complexities of the UCAS application and Student Finance application processes, which I knew nothing about before starting the course. Having been out of education for a year, the Access course was instrumental in rebuilding my confidence and preparing me for the rigours of university life.

The best thing about my programme was the camaraderie and friendships I formed. Being part of a group of 19+ adult learners from diverse backgrounds and cultures was enriching. We bonded over our shared experiences and goals, and I made friends that I am still close with five years later.

The College fosters an environment where students from all walks of life can thrive and feel valued. This inclusive atmosphere was a significant factor in my positive experience at the college.

What did you progress onto straight after your programme?

After completing my Access to Education qualification at Coventry College, I went on to study for a degree at Coventry University. I am now working as a Careers Adviser at Coventry College, coming full circle in my educational and professional journey.

Without the qualifications or UCAS points needed to attend university, the Access course at Coventry College was a lifeline. It provided me with the necessary qualifications and prepared me thoroughly for university. As a result, I was able to complete my degree in BA (Hons) Childhood, Youth and Education Studies, achieving a 2:1. This degree opened up numerous opportunities, including my current role as a Careers Adviser.

This is something I never thought I would be able to accomplish, and I am immensely proud of this milestone.

How did the staff at Coventry College support you as an adult learner?

The staff at Coventry College were exceptionally supportive throughout my course. They played a crucial role in helping us achieve the goals we set at the beginning of the year. Their encouragement and guidance were pivotal in my success, both academically and personally.

What are your aims for the future?

My future aims include continuing to learn and develop in my professional role. I am excited to see where my career as a Careers Adviser will take me over the next few years. I am committed to growing both personally and professionally, and I look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead.

What would your advice be to adults thinking about joining Coventry College?

My advice to anyone considering Coventry College is to go for it. Take the chance, especially if you are an adult learner contemplating returning to education. You never know where this decision might lead you. Coventry College provides an excellent foundation for your educational and professional aspirations, and it can open doors you never imagined possible.
