Connor Keeling’s journey into the world of fashion and costume design began at Coventry College, where he embarked on a fashion programme that would shape his future. Reflecting on his time at the college, Connor describes it as some of the best years of his life. “My time at Coventry College was amazing. It started my career in fashion and I met friends for life,” he recalls.

Arts University Bournemouth

After completing his course, Connor progressed to further study at the prestigious Arts University Bournemouth. The transition was seamless, thanks in large part to the support he received from his tutors at Coventry College. “Justin and Emma were incredibly supportive and helpful, especially when it came to applying for my chosen universities,” Connor notes.

Full-Time Drag Queen and Costume Designer

Today, Connor has carved out a vibrant career as a full-time drag queen and costume designer. His creativity and talent have led him to design costumes for drag queens and pantomimes, with some of his work being featured on popular shows like RuPaul’s Drag Race and Emmerdale. “Both Coventry College and Arts University Bournemouth helped me go down the path of costume design,” he says proudly.

Embracing Creativity

One of the highlights of Connor’s fashion course was the freedom it offered. “The fashion course allowed you to be as creative as you wanted to be. They didn’t try and curb the route you wanted to go down but helped guide you in the right direction,” he explains. This environment of encouragement and support was instrumental in shaping his creative vision.

Connor attributes much of his success to the supportive staff at Coventry College. “Justin and Emma were very supportive and helpful, especially when it came to applying for my chosen universities,” he says. Their guidance played a crucial role in his progression to higher education and ultimately, to his thriving career.

Coventry College offered Connor numerous opportunities that were pivotal in his development. “The opportunities that it offers are the best thing about Coventry College overall,” he says. The college not only helped him progress to higher education but also ensured he met the grades required to do so. This strong foundation allowed him to pursue his passion for costume design and achieve remarkable success.

Future Aims

Looking ahead, Connor’s aspirations remain ambitious. He aims to continue on the drag queen route and hopes to design for some big names in the future. His journey from Coventry College to becoming a renowned costume designer is a testament to his hard work, creativity, and the solid foundation he built at the college.
