Colleges Week

Coventry College marked a significant week as National Careers Week and National Colleges Week coincided, offering students a wealth of opportunities to explore future career paths and build valuable connections.

The week-long series of events was designed to align with the themes of government policies and to provide students with insights into various industries and professions.

The week kicked off with an engaging careers fair, where employers from the construction and engineering sectors were welcomed to the college. These industry professionals spoke with students about their post-college progression and the diverse career paths available to them. The fair provided a platform for students to network, ask questions, and gain a clearer understanding of their future opportunities.

In addition to the careers fair, students attended a powerful performance by the drama company Loudmouth. The company used the medium of drama to address serious topics such as knife crime, aligning with the Colleges Week theme of “Government Policies” and “Bring Back Our Streets.” The performance was both impactful and thought-provoking, raising awareness about important social issues.

Tuesday’s focus was on the healthcare sector with an NHS and Healthcare careers carousel. Health and social care students had the chance to engage with a variety of employers from different health departments. This event allowed students to learn about the numerous progression routes and the diverse roles within the healthcare industry. The theme for the day was “Building an NHS Fit for the Future,” emphasising the importance of preparing students for careers in a vital sector.

Midweek, the college hosted a higher education fair, inviting universities from across the country to promote their courses. This event provided students with the opportunity to explore higher education options, ask questions, and find the best fit for their academic and career goals. Representatives from various universities were on hand to offer advice and information.

Complementing the higher education fair, NatWest visited the college to deliver talks on finance, savings, and taxes. This session aimed to educate students on essential financial literacy topics, fitting with the theme of “Kickstart the Economy.” The information provided by NatWest was invaluable in helping students understand how to manage their finances effectively.

This event was designed to inspire and encourage young women to consider careers in construction, a field traditionally dominated by men. The theme of the day, “Breaking Down Barriers,” highlighted the college’s commitment to promoting gender diversity and inclusivity in all industries.
